Diet Soap Podcast #160: A Lucid Hegel?

This week is an excerpt from one of the Diet Soap Philosophy workshops.  Andy Marshall and I discuss a reading from Hegel and use the idea of lucid dreams or lucid dreaming in order to illustrate the concept.  In fact, we spend about thirty minutes interrogating this line from Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit.  The line is from the section entitled Reason’s Certainty and Reason’s Truth:

“WITH the thought which consciousness has laid hold of, that the individual consciousness is inherently absolute reality, consciousness turns back into itself. In the case of the unhappy consciousness, the inherent and essential reality is a “beyond” remote from itself. But the process of its own activity has in its case brought out the truth that individuality, when completely developed, individuality which is a concrete actual mode of consciousness, is made the negative of itself, i.e. the objective extreme.”

It’s Saturday, October 20th, 2012 and I’m Douglas Lain the host of the Diet Soap podcast.

Regarding the Diet Soap philosophy workshop, it does continue.  The next one will be on October 28th, and I’ve decided to continue having an open door policy regarding the workshops.  People who subscribe to Diet Soap are especially encouraged to participate however.

At the end of this episode you’ll hear a clip from Peter Rollins about Christianity and Atheism.
